Week 10 Coniferous Forests and Plant Lifecycles
Why not try and get another star towards your Crest Superstar Award. You all have at least 2 stars and we are trying to get 8. Here are three great research Science tasks, all about finding out about trees in our woodlands, perfect for this week. The most important thing is you must research this INDEPENDENTLY and provide some evidence that you have thought about you choice and given reasons for why you choose your special tree. It could be fruit bearing or just pretty. May be you want one that grows tall quickly or one which has lots of seeds to encourage animals and birds. Think about it. At least one hour of research for each Crest Award and some evidence of your research please!

3.6.20 Find out about the animals, birds and insects you can find in the rainforests. You could read about the animals mentioned in the Rainforest Calling book, using the activities above. Think about which level of the forest the animals live in (emergent layer, canopy, etc), what they eat and anything else that is interesting.
You could make fact cards, or a powerpoint slide or a giant poster. Think about how each plant or creature has adapted to suit its environment (e.g. leaves are waxy and have a drip tip to help rain run off quickly to stop them rotting in the wet and rainy forest).
Watch the clips below (most are under 2 mins) and find out about the amazing adaptations of the plants and animals. There is the murderous strangler fig that kills the tree it grows up and the plant that acts as a toilet for tree shrews!
