This week Maple has been exploring different practical science. We started our week by refreshing our knowledge of Forces; we enjoyed watching a Live lesson from the BBC about Forces at the Science Museum. We designed our own flying dragons, inspired by our English focus book: How to train your dragon by Cressida Cowell. We had to work in teams or individually to design a dragon which would fly a long distance; we had to consider air-resistance and drag. We tested our dragons, and measured their flight using meter sticks. We logged 3 flights per dragon, and then calculated the mean to show the average flight distance for our dragons. We also looked at Mars rovers and how they are built to survive in space. We also used drama to explore the requirements of plants for growth and life. The guest speakers were a highlight of the week; we really enjoyed speaking to Mr Arno and Mr Hillyer; we definitely learnt a lot of new knowledge!
