Hitchin Lavender

Have you noticed more flowers growing in your garden or on a walk? Perhaps you have seen some lavender, which is a purple flower with a strong scent that bumblebees in particular like! Did you know that Hitchin is well known for growing lavender? Perhaps you have visited the Lavender Fields with your family? Did you know that Queen Victoria stopped at Hitchin station in 1851 for some Hitchin lavender oil?

Our project this week is all about William Ransom and how he developed lavender oil many years ago.

Learn about William Ransom. Who was he? Why is he a significant person in local history?

What was lavender used for? Perhaps you could try the task at the end of the PowerPoint?
