Class One has been reading 'Thunder Cake' written by Patricia Polacco. This true story is about how the author's Babushka (Grandma) helps her to overcome her fear of thunder by making a 'Thunder Cake' with her. Patricia and her Babushka have to collect each ingredient before the next clap of thunder and have so much fun that the storm is soon forgotten about.
Using the text, we learnt many things including sequencing, story mapping, identifying and using descriptive language (adjectives and adverbs).
We were eager to make and taste this unusual cake, as the secret ingredient was tomato! We worked in two groups to bake two cakes and everyone thought the cake was delicious. We ended by watching the author read the story herself on the interactive whiteboard.
