Newsletter No 6                                                                                 9th March 2011

Dear Parents,

Welcome back after half-term.  The sun has finally come out and we are all hoping for a prolongued dry spell so that we can access the school field at playtimes.

New Building
We have finally been given planning permission to proceed with our new building.  Currently our project managers, Plus Projects, are producing a tender document and preparing building regulations ready to go out to tender.

Bag 2 School
Thank you to all of you who brought your unwanted clothes in to school.  The bags were collected and weighed and we managed to raise £258 to add to our building fund.

Mrs Shafe’s Sponsored Slim
You may have noticed that you have seen a lot less of Mrs Shafe recently.  This is because she is very close to reaching her initial target weight loss of 3 stone.  If you would like to sponsor her the sponsor form is still in the office.  Mrs Shafe plans to reach her target in time for Easter.

Project Gem Bring and Buy Sale
Class Three children managed to raise just under £90 for Project Gem at the Bring and Buy Sale they organised at the end of January.  Well done!

Red Nose Day
This year, Red Nose Day takes place on Friday 18th March.  The children voted to hold another “Preston’s Got Talent Show” and parents are invited to come in to watch the children perform.  Generally there are no parents allowed at the Christmas Talent Show.  All we ask is that you donate £1 towards Red Nose Day.  Children are invited to wear something red.  Mrs Fell will be selling biscuits at morning play for 30 pence each.

Spring Ball
The Ball Committee is busy organising the Spring Ball and it looks as though it is going to be a big success.  This will be the last ball that Sarah Gill, Tracey Trever and Sue Barkley will be organising so we would like it to be a big success so that all their hard work will be worth it.

Five Star Rating
Contrary to the article printed in The Comet, our school kitchen received a five star rating from the Environmental Health Office when they inspected the kitchen on 25th January.  The rating published in The Comet was from last year.  Mrs Fell and Mrs Luscombe worked very hard to ensure that they were awarded five stars and we are very proud of the high standards that they maintain.

Help Needed

Mrs Morris is planning to create an outside musical area and is looking for:

  1. Old pots and pans
  2. Out of date dried peas and beans or pasta to use to make shakers.

She is also looking for spare clothes such as pants, knickers, tights and dresses for those “little accidents” that occur from time to time.  P.E. shoes and plimsolls are also needed.

Timings
I have been asked to remind you that children not attending Breakfast Club should only be dropped at school after 8.35 a.m. when the playground is supervised.  Please do not drop children before then unless you want them to attend Breakfast Club.  If you have children who attend After School Club the latest collection time is 5.30 p.m.  Please try to keep to this time as the staff who organise it are frequently kept waiting.

This is quite a long term but time seems to be racing ahead.  I list below the diary dates for the rest of the term.

Yours sincerely,

Alison Brooks
