We have been using simple geographical language to describe routes and locations of landmarks within the school grounds by going on an expedition with our teddy bears. We followed a route on a map to find the landmarks.
In groups, we created an explorer's flag, hid it on the field and wrote directions for other groups to find it. After this, we swapped instructions and peer assessed how useful and accurate the directions were.
Using a range of media, we researched the lives and achievements of two famous explorers, Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong. We discussed the differences between expeditions from over five hundred years ago and fifty years ago. After watching video clips replicating their expeditions, we had a go at creating our own expedition crafts and then role played using a range of scenarios that might happen during these journeys.
